START’s New Medical Director Appointed to the NYS OASAS Medical Advisory Panel

Fortunately, the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) Medical Advisor Panel brings together experts in addiction medicine and behavioral health services to address vital strategic patient care issues and form recommendations.
Widely respected in the field for her brilliant leadership in developing clinical initiatives that yield results for various stakeholders, Dr. Sonia Lopez, Medical Director of START Treatment & Recovery Centers, has been appointed to serve on the Medical Advisory Panel of OASAS. Considering the range of significant changes confronting providers, the Medical Advisory Panel provides a needed peer-driven voice. The panel’s hefty meeting agendas usually cover a range of issues such as: coordination of care, embracing harm reduction concepts, how to better protect patients from abusing prescription benzodiazepines/ narcotics and using telemedicine to enhance access to primary care services and treatment.
