START Meets With Assemblymember Walter T. Mosely
On Thursday, August 21st staff members from START Treatment & Recovery Centers met with Assemblymember Walter T. Mosley at his District Office. This meeting was a result of START’s efforts to meet and engage influential community leaders to garner support for our various initiatives and capital funding needs.
During the meeting Dr. Lawrence Brown provided a brief history of the organization and noted that START began treating patients in a single building in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and is now one of New York State's largest non-hospital providers of health and human services. Garry Graham, Fort Greene Clinic Director, expanded on the current and future developments taking place at his clinic. START’s Marketing & Communications Associate, Channell Mellish, and Alexandra Shwarzstein, Fundraising Relations Manager, discussed START’s efforts to forge community partnerships. This meeting initiated an open dialogue with the local legislature for possible opportunities to collaborate on programming, funding opportunities or policy issues related to addiction and substance abuse treatment and our efforts to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic.
We are honored to report that Assemblymember Mosley will visit the Fort Greene clinic on Thursday, October 23rd for a site tour of the facility and to educate the staff and patients on how the City Council works for them.
