Get Ready for the Signature Event!

This year’s version of the event will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion for the second straight year on Thursday, October 18th, and will run from 6:30-8:30 PM. Our largest annual fundraiser, this event has all the potential to be START’s most impactful event ever!

Why, you ask? We’ll start with the obvious: the special guests for this event are true stars in the world of health care.

First, our host for the event is Debra Fraser-Howze. Ms. Fraser-Howze is a long-standing leader and advocate for communities of color, recognized principally for having founded and served as President and CEO of the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, currently the largest black HIV and AIDS non-profit in America. She also served as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS from the mid-90s to early 2000s, advising two U.S. Presidents during her tenure. Her accomplishments could fill volumes.

In addition to Ms. Fraser-Howze, we are also proud to be honoring Arlene Gonzalez-Sanchez, the Commissioner of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, at our event! Ms. Gonzalez-Sanchez oversees the treatment of opioid use disorder, among many other responsibilities, state-wide. She has been a dedicated public health servant for over 30 years and has become a true leader in solving the opioid epidemic in our state.

Between just these two incredible women, the night promises to be both moving and insightful, and we’re counting the days until it arrives!
